Ink on microfibre

Having a look at a microfibre sofa tomorrow. It has an ink spot the diameter of a pencil. Spot is on the back of the sofa not a cushion. Would you start by blotting it with isoproyl?

we did one several months ago.
The lady was frantic when she called me that Sunday morning.
Their 3 year old scribbled ALL OVER this ladies 2 week old MF sectional.
They told be it was ball point ink pen.
I told them leave a key under the mat and I'd take care of it Monday afternoon.

I took alcohol, Purell hand soap and citrus gel in with me.
The citrus gel worked the best and it was actually pretty easy to remove 100% of Young Rembrandt's master piece

i've also had success with prosolve gel and chemspecs rotobrite. imho microfibre usually cleans up really well.

I've used anything from Iso, Releasit DS spotter, purell etc but careful as a lot of these are flocked and so ANY solvent may cause delamination.

The last one I did, it already had delamination and I didn't want to make it worse so I put the spotter on a towel and held it against the are for a minute or so and then carefully dabbed at the spot and they came clean. Releasit DS actully did the best for me but needed a bit of dwell time.

make a water ring around the outside first to contain spreading. blot out as much as possible with an ink remover, use a blow dryer to speed dry so your working with an area thats as dry as possible. flush between spotting agents and dry. i normally apply my spotters with Q-tips so it goes where i want it!

Good post, Danny. Know I hope I don't get dragged into this whole Marty / Danny thing.

Surround the ink with a water based spotter, for example StainZone to keep the ink from spreading.

Whatever solvent you use to remove the ink, be careful of possible delamination of a flocked fabric.

In our line Solvent Clean and possibly Stain Zone as a follow-up for any stubburn color remaining.

I have found that a lot of things that won't be spotted out of microfiber will come off into a terry towel.

I found this out after telling a gal that the purple ink stain was stubborn and I wasn't going to risk putting a smoking hole in her sofa with solvents unless she signed off on it.

She said she would live with the purple ink spot.... And then it came off entirely on the towel as I was toweling the piece off after the cleaning.

I started checking that regularly on microfiber and sure enough, if something is being stubborn on a microfiber, take a towel to it while it's wet and you'll take a lot out. Just don't rub and scrub with the towel, blot or gently wipe in one direction.

How do you make room for a microfibre sectional that you have no space for? The piece was a dark red sectional with a small 1/8" across black spot on the seat.

I was feeling pretty comfortable...after all microfibre is bullet proof, right? I Tried Dannys water ring idea and then hit the spot with isopropyl on a q-tip. No transfer. Moved on to the vds and it started pulling tar looking (dark brown) goop out. Kept dabbing and applying vds and the color transfering started to turn red, unfortunately the color of the fabric.

There appears to be some color loss where I was blotting about 1/2" across. Had the camera but I didn't have the balls to take any pictures. I had damp wiped some other organic spots with a terry towel and spotter so the overall color of the cushion was splotchy. Told the customer to give me a call in the morning when it dried up.

I'm a little nervous.

Are you sure it wasn't that nylon stuff? A lot of stores call it a butterfly microfiber.

They had nylon stuff like microfiber a long time before they came out with microfiber.

Its polyester.
Just got off the phone with the customer...can color be put back into poly?

I didn't think color could be taken out of Poly.... I thought it was all solution dyed as a liquid...
