I use 15w40 in my general pump water pump

Manual says change the oil every 500hrs with the general pump brand oil but it doesn’t specify on the 15w40

Since 15w40 is made to withstand engine combustion temp, should I worry about being religious on the 500hr since the temp or wear doesn’t come anywhere near a truck motor?

I would use pump oil. Transmission oit takes heat and punishment and lasts 25k+ but would you put that in your engine? I don't know if one brand of pump oil is different than any other but i know there different than motor oil. I run Hypro pumps they say use Hypro pump oil. I use Cat pump oil instead because I can get it at home depot. I also run Cat oil in my Comet wastepump Unless the pump specifically says use automotive oil( i believe Hydracell recommends 30w non detergent) i would steer clear. If your car says use 0-20w and you want to get the most outa it i wouldn't put 15-40w in instead. And if you want the most outa your pump i would put in oil specifically designed for pumps.

Any oil will work...... for a while. pump oil is just w30 not detergent for the most part.
my manual says I can use 15w40 and it has over 500hrs with that in it now. That's why I'm asking. General pump says that across the board on this Emperor pump

the list chart of compatible oils is equal to 15w40 in the manual which is equal to General pump series 100

I'm looking in the site glass and that oil still looks new.
