For multi story homes, you need a lighter machine like the Odyssey. A good battery sprayer. Saiger's Code Red of Encaps is a good place to start. A Phoenix for commercial. Orbital car polishers for upholstery. Oxy-encap is great on upholstery.

I use HWE on residential, and Pad-Cap for Berber and glue-down commercial carpet. I have used HWE on a greasy restaurant, and on that same grease-pit I used a pad. The HWE did well, but was uneven, and had a few wick-backs I had to come back and fix with the pad. My biggest complaint about Pad-Capping with a crystalizing cleaner is... it works too good! When I come back in 6 months for a scheduled cleaning, they look at me as if I were nuts! The only thing needing cleaning is usually drink spills (office jobs).

This is from 2009, a CCS Brute, which I believe were built on Clark. (Company became Trinity, then Tops.) It was their "Big Dog" in the day. Now chemistry is even better and machines do even better.

Yet, you cannot deny it works! The tamping action probably came about by accident of not having a perfectly level pad driver when they first started converting a standard buffer to an "orbital sander" motion. I believe that it does help lift (by tamping) better than mere towel spinning with a buffer.

No single system works best in all situations, I just like that I have options to choose which one is best.
I have rattled small items (a line of bullets lined up in a cabinet) off a shelf by the vibrations! I occasionally use the pad machine to pre-agitate my HWE prespray in residential and have to be cautious that small items may vibrate and move.

The method does not play much on time and temperature, but the chemistry is more immediate and relies on agitation to lift and strip soil from the fibers, and if using a pad, absorbing about 80% of the soil. Chemistry with agitation alone with a CRB works surprisingly well. I have a couple of Whittakers, but if spills are involved, I prefer using an absorbent pad.

THANK YOU!!!!! Like you I use variety of method. Had been messing with VLM , even got some Argsheen, and some of the crappy bonnet they were pushing in the day, to use under my 175.
Not until I got a used CCS machine locally and some of the original glad pads did I have success.
Oh, and I needed to get some of Rick G juice shipped, as my local distributor had not awakened yet to what Jan /San people had known for years. !!!

Easily 2000 sqft per hour. I bring all my chemistry premixed for every job. Bunch of 2.5 gallon jugs, stack of pads and away I go. I expect residential is slower.

I used to pre-mix and carry, but that was when I first started with an OP system and a Portable HWE. Since I carry 100 gallons of water, I find it more convenient to just tap my water supply. It only takes five minutes or less to refill and gives me a short break.

Wow! Argosheen! Now that is old! I still have a half a gallon of "Butyl Juice," the old recipe of Vacaway's Hot Knife. I did use up the last of my Abstraction about five years ago on my own Berber carpet. Antique juice for antique carpet!

I am a bit old school on pads, I have both striped Microfibers and Cotton pads. In most cases I use cotton. The aggressiveness of newer machines tend to make Microfiber pads only single use or four times at best. By big unit is one of the Erasers, and if I go over 70% it will eat Microfibers like crazy! It will even thin through a new cotton pad if I run them too long. I get a great swath with the machine but change pads much more frequently than I do on my small Liberty. The microfiber seems to sheer imbedded soil faster and more effectively, but I think that I get better absorption from cotton, especially on spills.
