I have a boxer 318 which i bought brand new, its been a great machine for me. Yesterday i was doing some uppholstery and the machine was struggling to stay running for a bit then shut itself off. I checked my oil because i know i have some minor oil leaks and it was low, so i added some and now it stays running but doesn’t throttle up to full speed and if i hold my hand over the vacuum hose it losses rpms which it never did before, i have checked the air filter and it is good, i’m thinking maybe a fuel filter or fuel pump problem which i’ll check the fuel filter today, don’t know how i’d check the fuel pump.

Anybody have any suggestions to help me

It could be several things, 1, it could be fuel related. When running the unit with a load, pull the choke out slightly, does the machine attempt to recover or start to die? 2nd Could it possibly be running on one cylinder? I suggest calling 425775-7276 and ask for Dennis Russel. He is the best and can walk you through most scenarios.

As recommended above.

Also:

When did you last change spark plugs?
Actually i haven't ever changed the spark plugs but i did take them out to check them, there are two, there was carbon on them so i took a wire brush to them to clean them off and put them them back but it made no difference, i will go get two new ones tomorrow and just change them anyway though

I will change the fuel filter tomorrow and also change my spark plugs and if still not better i can change the fuel pump but i'll have to order that, the fuel filter i can get locally

You can buy your fuel pump locally too. Just get a 3.5-7 psi fuel pump at any auto parts store

Might not be the same problem, but my Legend with a Kohler engine was "bogging" and "stumbling" and sometimes stalling under load. Seemed to run fine with no load. After some testing, the mechanic I took it to said it was a cracked ignition coil. Had them both replaced and it was fine after that.

thanks i'll keep that in mind if after replacing both spark plugs, fuel filter and pump if that doesn't fix it

I had the same problem on a Honda engine. Replacing the coils solved the problem.

I changed my spark plugs and the fuel filter, air filter is also clean engine runs fine but still bogs down when i hold my hand over the vacuum hose and seal it off, guess my next step would be changing the fuel pump itself

Lubricate your vac relief spring valve on the recovery tank to see if it's working properly. It might not be opening up, which is showing those symptoms

and look at what the hg's are set at while you're doing it

Unless you just want to throw parts at it there are testing procedures for fuel pumps and coils.
Along with a compression test to rule out a burnt valve.

Well i've only changed the spark plugs and the fuel filter and made sure the air filter is clean, so not much money spent there, i am going to take it in for further diagnosis only problem is closest place is just under 3 hours away but i gotta do what i gotta do i guess.

Some small fuel pumps have a filter screwed into it. Pull the fuel line and turn the key. If it shoots out its good, but may be crapping out when getting hot. Does it bog down the same when cold vs hot?
