Cooties are body lice, unlikely to exist in a carpet that is cleaned properly.

My guess is you are speaking the term more broadly, such as the fictious childhood germs that little boys think they will get if they kiss little girls.

The point is of interest, though.

As a landlord, I routinely have properties cleaned, painted, and the carpet cleaned. In our humid climate, though, if the tenant was less than clean, and especially if they had pets, I replace carpet.

On the other hand, knowing what I do about what cleaning can (and can't) do, I'm still confident that I can rent out a home with installed carpet that has been cleaned and treated with a sanitizer as a part of the process, and do so in good conscience.

Such things cross my mind when I stay in hotels, believe me.

“Cooties” is cute. “Funk” has a myriad of connotations. “Microbial growth” is perhaps best.

But then you sound pedantic...like me

Had a 76 yo man call today, I thought he was a spammer so I messed when him from the get go..

He hung in there as his iPhone recommended me the strongest.
We had a good laugh over it

He's moving out and wanted to leave his worn out funky and cootie filled carpet looking a bit better. Knowing full well the buyers will do a full remodel I told him to just vacuum it real well.
He said that made sense, no need to throw out good money with the baby and the bathwater or some euphemism from his day like that.

He asked me how much I'd charge to vacuum only..


I'll be a hundred richer by 10:30 am on Thursday, unless he's a good life story teller, which means noon.

I did warn him that if he tries to sell me health insurance or an ad on the back fence of our little league field there would be a reckoning...
